01Overview
What UBT251 is
It was developed by The United Bio-Technology (Hengqin) Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of The United Laboratories International Holdings (TUL), a drug maker based in Zhuhai, China, and listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange (TUL stock exchange announcement, 16 June 2023; PMID: 42712041). On 24 March 2025 the two companies gave Novo Nordisk an exclusive license to UBT251 outside China mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, for $200 million upfront, up to $1.8 billion in development and sales milestones, and tiered royalties (TUL stock exchange announcement, 24 March 2025). United Bio-Technology runs development in those four territories, and Novo Nordisk runs it in the rest of the world (Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026).

The main human evidence is a 24-week phase 2 trial in China in 205 adults with overweight or obesity and without diabetes, in which mean weight loss ranged from 13.6% to 19.7% across the UBT251 dose groups, against 2.0% on placebo (PMID: 42843337). Neither the published abstract nor the company releases name the dose behind 19.7%, and Novo Nordisk reports that figure under the efficacy estimand (Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026). A second phase 2 trial, in Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes, compared UBT251 with semaglutide and placebo (NCT07163624). Its results come only from company announcements, and PubMed listed no paper on it on 24 October 2026 (TUL stock exchange announcement, 25 March 2026; PubMed search for UBT251, 24 October 2026).
The name Vistrutide appears in research chemical seller listings, for example as "UBT251 (Vistrutide)" (seller product page, checked 24 October 2026), but it is not an official name. It is not on any WHO international nonproprietary name (INN) list published from August 2023 to September 2026, the US Adopted Names database has no record of it, and the developer, Novo Nordisk, both journal papers and every trial registration use UBT251 (WHO INN lists and AMA USAN Drug Finder, checked 24 October 2026; PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337).
Research-market vials sold as UBT251 or Vistrutide are not the product tested in these trials, and the trial results do not describe them.
How it works
Three receptors in one peptide
UBT251 is a synthetic peptide that activates three hormone receptors: those for glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon (PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337). Novo Nordisk describes it as a long-acting synthetic peptide triple agonist (Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026). The developer says it showed activity at all three receptors in preclinical studies and is made by chemical peptide synthesis (TUL stock exchange announcements, 24 March 2025 and 26 September 2023).

How it compares by receptor
Retatrutide acts on the same three receptors (PMID: 37366315). Tirzepatide acts on two of them, GIP and GLP-1 (Lilly press release, 30 September 2026), mazdutide on GLP-1 and glucagon (PMID: 40421736), and semaglutide on GLP-1 alone (PMID: 38330988). A shared receptor list does not make two drugs equal, because each molecule has its own potency at each receptor, and the two UBT251 abstracts give no potency figures (PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337).
Pharmacokinetics
In the developer's single-dose phase 1a trial in healthy Chinese adults, the mean half-life of each dose group was 137 to 170 hours, about 5.7 to 7.1 days, which TUL says supports one injection a week (TUL stock exchange announcement, 12 August 2024). That is a company figure. The peer-reviewed phase 1 paper reports roughly linear pharmacokinetics after single and repeated doses, meaning blood levels rose in proportion to dose, but its abstract gives no half-life (PMID: 42712041). The repeated-dose trials give UBT251 once a week by injection under the skin (PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337).
What is not disclosed
UBT251's amino acid sequence and structure do not appear in the developer's stock exchange filings, the two published abstracts or the trial registrations, and no WHO INN entry, which would carry a formula, has been found for it (TUL stock exchange announcements, 2023 to 2026; PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337; WHO INN lists, checked 24 October 2026). This page therefore lists no formula, molecular weight or CAS number.

Contraindications
UBT251 is not approved, so it has no prescribing label and no labeled contraindications (NCT07668388). The phase 2 obesity trial excluded people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2, a history of acute or chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic surgery, or symptomatic gallbladder disease in the 2 years before screening, and it excluded pregnant or breastfeeding women (NCT07177469). These are trial entry rules, not harms seen with UBT251, and they mean the trials give no information about people in those groups.
Drug interaction trials with an oral contraceptive, warfarin, caffeine, midazolam, metformin, atorvastatin and digoxin were recruiting on 24 October 2026 and had posted no results (NCT07710729; NCT07710768; NCT07785934).

08Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is UBT251?
UBT251, also written UBT-251, is an investigational peptide that activates three hormone receptors: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon (PMID: 42712041). That makes it a triple agonist, the same class as retatrutide (PMID: 37366315). In trials it is injected under the skin once a week, and it is being studied in obesity, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, MASH and obstructive sleep apnea (PMID: 42843337; ClinicalTrials.gov search for UBT251, 24 October 2026). It is not approved anywhere (NCT07668388).
Who makes UBT251?
UBT251 was developed by The United Bio-Technology (Hengqin) Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of The United Laboratories International Holdings (TUL), a drug maker in Zhuhai, China, listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange (TUL stock exchange announcement, 16 June 2023; PMID: 42712041). Novo Nordisk describes UBT251 as jointly developed by United Bio-Technology and Novo Nordisk under an agreement signed in March 2025, with United Bio-Technology responsible for China mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and Novo Nordisk responsible for the rest of the world (Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026).
What is the Novo Nordisk deal for UBT251?
On 24 March 2025, United Bio-Technology and TUL gave Novo Nordisk an exclusive license to develop, manufacture and commercialize UBT251 worldwide, except in China mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (TUL stock exchange announcement, 24 March 2025). The terms were $200 million upfront, up to $1.8 billion in development and sales milestones, and tiered royalties on sales in Novo Nordisk's territory, subject to regulatory clearances that included Hart-Scott-Rodino clearance in the US (TUL stock exchange announcement, 24 March 2025). TUL reported receiving $180 million of the upfront payment after Danish withholding tax on 20 June 2025, a $13.5 million milestone in July 2026 for Novo Nordisk's global phase 2 obesity trial, and a $9.0 million milestone in September 2026 for its global phase 2 type 2 diabetes trial (TUL stock exchange announcements, 20 June 2025, 16 July 2026 and 24 September 2026).
Is UBT251 approved?
No. UBT251 is not approved for any use in any country, and Novo Nordisk's trial summary says doctors cannot prescribe it (NCT07668388). China's National Medical Products Administration has cleared clinical trials in type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease, chronic kidney disease and sleep apnea, and the US FDA allowed trials to proceed under investigational new drug applications in 2023 and 2025 (TUL stock exchange announcements, August 2023 to February 2026). Those clearances permit trials, not sales. No application to market UBT251 had been announced by 24 October 2026 (TUL and Novo Nordisk announcements, checked 24 October 2026).
Is Vistrutide the same as UBT251?
Vistrutide is a seller's name, not an official drug name. Seller listings use titles such as "UBT251 (Vistrutide)" (seller product page, checked 24 October 2026). The name does not appear in the WHO's proposed INN lists 129 to 135 or recommended INN lists 92 to 96, published from August 2023 to September 2026, and the AMA's US Adopted Names database has no record for it or for UBT251 (WHO INN lists and AMA USAN Drug Finder, checked 24 October 2026). The developer, Novo Nordisk, both journal papers and every trial registration call the drug UBT251 (PMID: 42712041, PMID: 42843337; ClinicalTrials.gov search for UBT251, 24 October 2026). No source found explains where the name Vistrutide came from.
How does UBT251 compare with retatrutide?
Both are triple agonists of the GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors, and no trial has compared them directly (PMID: 42843337, PMID: 37366315). The closest pairing is each drug's phase 2 result at week 24, which both companies report under the efficacy estimand (Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026; Lilly press release, 26 June 2023). In a phase 2 trial in China, UBT251's best-performing dose group lost a mean 19.7% of body weight against 2.0% on placebo in 205 adults without diabetes, and neither the abstract nor the company releases name that dose (PMID: 42843337; Novo Nordisk press release, 24 February 2026). Retatrutide's best dose group lost 17.5% against 1.6% on placebo at week 24 in a 338-person phase 2 trial in US adults without diabetes (PMID: 37366315; Lilly press release, 26 June 2023). The populations differ, so these numbers cannot rank the two drugs. Retatrutide also has 80-week phase 3 results, and UBT251 has none (PMID: 42814954). Retatrutide's own trial data is in its guide.
How does UBT251 compare with semaglutide and tirzepatide?
Semaglutide is the only approved drug UBT251 has been compared with in a completed randomized trial (NCT07163624). In 211 Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes, HbA1c fell by up to 2.16 percentage points at 24 weeks with UBT251, against 1.77 with semaglutide and 0.66 with placebo, and weight fell by up to 9.8% against 4.8% and 1.4% (TUL stock exchange announcement, 25 March 2026; NCT07163624). These are company figures with no journal paper, and Novo Nordisk footnotes only the weight figures as efficacy estimand results (Novo Nordisk press release, 25 March 2026). A phase 3 trial, UNIGUIDE-2, is comparing the two in 956 people with type 2 diabetes (NCT07653477). No registered UBT251 trial includes tirzepatide, so any comparison with it crosses trials, populations and timepoints (ClinicalTrials.gov search for UBT251, 24 October 2026). Their trial data is in the semaglutide and tirzepatide guides.
What side effects were seen in UBT251 trials?
Gastrointestinal symptoms were the most common adverse events in the phase 2 obesity trial, and most were mild to moderate (PMID: 42843337). The phase 1 study also listed decreased appetite and laboratory test changes among the most common (PMID: 42712041). The developer reported that no one in the phase 2 obesity trial withdrew because of an adverse event (TUL stock exchange announcement, 24 February 2026). Rates by dose group, including nausea, vomiting and heart rate changes, are not in the published abstracts or the company releases (PMID: 42843337, PMID: 42712041).
Is there a recommended dose of UBT251?
No. UBT251 is not approved anywhere, so no approved or recommended dose exists (NCT07668388). The research section on this page lists the doses each trial tested, as facts about those trials and not as guidance.
Is UBT251 being tested for Parkinson's disease?
No. None of the 14 UBT251 trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov on 24 October 2026 studies Parkinson's disease; they cover obesity, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, MASH, obstructive sleep apnea and drug interactions (ClinicalTrials.gov search for UBT251, 24 October 2026).
How many vendors sell UBT251, and what does it cost per mg?
1 of the vendors BodyHackGuide tracks list UBT251 (1 listing). Among BodyHackGuide's UBT251 listings recorded as in stock with a milligram count, the lowest price per milligram is $9.00/mg at Disguised Alpha and the median is $9.00/mg. The UBT251 prices on BodyHackGuide are vendors' listed prices as BodyHackGuide last recorded them, not transactions; the most recent recorded change to a UBT251 listing is dated 27 October 2026.
Which vendors have third-party COAs for UBT251 on file at BodyHackGuide?
BodyHackGuide holds no third-party certificate records for UBT251. Each vendor page on BodyHackGuide shows how many certificate records BodyHackGuide holds for that vendor.
