Oxiracetam Dosage Guide: Protocols, Calculator & Safety
Everything you need to know about Oxiracetam dosing: protocols, safety, and where to buy.
Half-Life
About 8 hours in healthy adults. Mean terminal half-life was 7.7 hours in healthy non-geriatric subjects and 12.3 hours in elderly patients after oral dosing (PMID: 2253653), and 10.6 to 68.1 hours in patients with renal impairment, correlating with creatinine clearance (PMID: 2253654). More than 90 percent of an intravenous dose is recovered unchanged in urine within 48 hours, and absolute oral bioavailability was 75 percent in healthy volunteers (PMID: 6519128).

Side Effects & Safety
Contraindications
Renal impairment is the main pharmacokinetic caution: oxiracetam is excreted essentially unchanged by the kidney and its terminal half-life rose from about 8 hours to as much as 68 hours as creatinine clearance fell (PMID: 2253654; PMID: 6519128). A pilot study found that concurrent carbamazepine or valproic acid shortened the oxiracetam half-life, although oxiracetam did not alter antiepileptic drug serum concentrations (PMID: 2108837). No human pregnancy or lactation safety data have been published; in pregnant rats, radiolabeled oxiracetam crossed the placenta into fetal tissue reversibly and to a limited extent (PMID: 1499599).
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended Oxiracetam dosage?
Dosage for Oxiracetam varies by protocol. Consult a qualified healthcare provider.
How often should I take Oxiracetam?
Administration frequency depends on the specific protocol. Consult current research literature.
Does Oxiracetam need to be cycled?
Cycling requirements depend on the protocol. Follow established research guidelines.
What are Oxiracetam side effects?
In a 289-patient, 12-week, placebo-controlled trial, 31 patients on oxiracetam and 27 on placebo reported minor unwanted effects, and routine laboratory examinations showed no clinically or statistically significant changes (PMID: 2693996). In a 65-patient trial, two patients on oxiracetam were withdrawn for poor tolerability (PMID: 1414239). A one-year follow-up study in mild to moderate dementia reported no severe adverse events and no changes in routine laboratory tests (PMID: 1603291). In the 590-patient phase 3 traumatic brain injury trial, the proportion of serious adverse events did not differ between L-oxiracetam, oxiracetam and placebo (PMID: 41381424). In dogs given acute and 13-week repeated oral dosing, toxicity presented mainly as loose stools, with a no-observed-adverse-effect level proposed at 100 mg/kg (PMID: 30351213).
