SANA Side Effects
Complete SANA safety profile: reported side effects from published research, contraindications, severity tiers, and how to minimize adverse reactions through proper dosing and vendor selection.
Reported SANA side effects
Phase 1 trial (41 volunteers, up to 15 days of dosing) All human safety data come from one phase 1 trial in 41 volunteers, with at most 15 days of dosing (PMID: 40527924). Two participants had adverse events judged definitively related to SANA: reversible damage to the kidney tubules, seen as protein and glucose in the urine, after the highest single dose of 800 mg (PMID: 40527924). The safety review committee ended the single-dose part before the last participant in the 800 mg cohort was dosed; it judged that the no-observed-adverse-effect level had been determined (PMID: 40527924). No adverse events judged definitively drug-related occurred in the 15-day multiple-dose part of the SANA trial, and the most frequent possibly drug-related events were headache and soft stools (PMID: 40527924). No severe adverse events were recorded, liver function was normal in all participants after 15 days, and no moderate or severe gastrointestinal adverse effects were reported (PMID: 40527924). One participant in the lowest multiple-dose cohort was withdrawn because of mild proteinuria, which was judged unrelated to SANA and probably due to kidney disease missed at screening (PMID: 40527924). Participants reported no change in appetite or satiety on a questionnaire, and one participant in the highest-dose group had higher fasting glucose despite lower weight and insulin (PMID: 40527924). Animal data Eight weeks of SANA at 400 mg/kg a day in normal mice showed no signs of kidney or liver toxicity (PMID: 40527924). In mice lacking the mitochondrial creatine kinase CKMT1, SANA at room temperature was followed by a roughly 50 percent increase in mortality within a week, while no normal mice died, and housing at thermoneutrality prevented the deaths; the authors suggest SANA commits mice to creatine-dependent heat production at the expense of other heat-producing pathways (PMID: 40527924). In normal mice, SANA did not impair shivering, skeletal muscle creatine kinase or mitochondrial function, exercise capacity, or heart mitochondrial respiration and function, although it raised muscle creatine levels (PMID: 40527924). What is not known No human data on SANA beyond 15 days, in pregnancy, in children or with other medicines were found (PMID: 40527924).
When to continue, reduce, or stop SANA
Mild: continue protocol
Transient mild symptoms (slight GI upset, minor injection-site reaction, brief fatigue) typically resolve within 3-7 days as physiology adjusts. Continue at current dose; monitor weekly.
Moderate: reduce dose
Persistent mild symptoms past two weeks, or new symptoms like sustained mood changes, sleep disruption, or appetite shifts. Reduce dose by 25-50% and reassess at the end of the next 2-week window.
Severe: discontinue + seek care
Any signal of allergic response (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), unexplained chest discomfort, severe injection-site reaction with infection signs, or vision changes. Discontinue immediately and consult a licensed practitioner.
SANA contraindications
SANA is an experimental compound with no approved label, so no official contraindications exist. The cautions below come from the phase 1 and animal findings and are reported as the sources state them. Kidney function warrants caution: the only adverse events judged definitively related to SANA in the phase 1 trial were reversible kidney tubule damage after a single 800 mg dose, and a participant with probable undetected kidney disease developed proteinuria during the trial (PMID: 40527924). Defects in creatine metabolism are a concern from animal work: in mice lacking the creatine kinase CKMT1, SANA at room temperature was followed by deaths that did not occur in normal mice (PMID: 40527924). SANA is built on the salicylate scaffold, the parent compound of aspirin (PMID: 40527924), and no study has tested SANA in people with aspirin or salicylate sensitivity. Pregnancy, children and long-term use fall outside the data: the SANA trial enrolled adults aged 18 to 60 for at most 15 days of dosing, and no data in pregnancy or in children were found (PMID: 40527924).
Why vendor quality drives SANA side-effect frequency
Research-compound communities consistently report that adverse-event frequency tracks with source quality. Three reasons: (1) impurity profiles vary by lab (residual synthesis byproducts can trigger reactions); (2) mislabeled mass means actual dose can be 50-150% of stated dose; (3) reconstitution-grade water and capping methodology affect long-term storage stability. COA-verified vendors with published HPLC data minimize all three failure modes. Check a vendor's COA record and Trust Score before you buy.

SANA side effects FAQ
What are the most common SANA side effects?

Are there severe side effects to watch for with SANA?
Severe reactions are rare in published research but can occur. Watch for: allergic-type symptoms (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), unexplained chest discomfort, infection signs at injection sites, vision changes, or severe persistent mood/sleep disruption. Any of these warrants immediate discontinuation and consultation with a licensed practitioner. The Severity Tiers section above triages mild → moderate → severe response patterns.

How can I minimize SANA side effects?
Three biggest levers: (1) Start at the Beginner-tier dose for 2-3 weeks before escalating, which gives time to detect adverse signals at minimum effective dose. (2) Source from COA-verified vendors only: impurity profiles and mislabeled compounds drive a disproportionate share of reported side effects in research-compound communities. (3) Maintain adequate cycle off-time when applicable: receptor-saturating compounds benefit from 4-6 week breaks. The vendor section below lists the cheapest in-stock SANA sources we track, each linked to its Trust Score (COA verification is 30% of the score).
