    Emoxypine (Mexidol) Side Effects

Complete Emoxypine (Mexidol) safety profile: reported side effects from published research, contraindications, severity tiers, and how to minimize adverse reactions through proper dosing and vendor selection.

    Reported Emoxypine (Mexidol) side effects

Placebo-controlled trials In the MIR stroke trial, adverse events occurred in 35 patients (23 percent) on Mexidol and 35 patients (23 percent) on placebo (PMID: 40898634). The MIR results posted on ClinicalTrials.gov list serious adverse events in 6 of 152 patients on Mexidol and 4 of 152 on placebo, deaths from any cause in 2 and 1, and headache in 5 against 2 (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06437626). In the EPICA stroke trial, the frequency of side effects did not differ significantly between groups (PMID: 28665371); its posted results list serious adverse events in 1 of 75 patients on Mexidol and 3 of 75 on placebo (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02793687). In the MEMO trial in chronic brain ischemia, no deaths or serious adverse events occurred among 318 patients. Other adverse events were recorded in 19 of 159 patients on Mexidol and 32 of 159 on placebo; itchy throat (4 against 0), itchy nose (2 against 0) and altered taste (2 against 0) were among those recorded more often on Mexidol (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06834490). In the MEGA trial in children with ADHD, adverse events were recorded in 26 of 111 children on 125 mg twice daily, 14 of 111 on 125 mg once daily and 20 of 111 on placebo (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06854601), and the authors reported no significant differences in the main safety measures (PMID: 35485068). Who reported the safety data These four trials were sponsored by Pharmasoft, the Russian company named in the MEGA trial report as the maker of the Mexidol tablets tested (PMID: 35485068), and each ClinicalTrials.gov record was submitted after the trial's primary completion date (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02793687, NCT06834490, NCT06854601, NCT06437626). Pregnancy The MIR trial excluded pregnant and breastfeeding women and required contraception during treatment (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06437626). A PubMed search on 25 October 2026 found no study of Mexidol or emoxypine in pregnant women.

When to continue, reduce, or stop Emoxypine (Mexidol)

    Mild: continue protocol

Transient mild symptoms (slight GI upset, minor injection-site reaction, brief fatigue) typically resolve within 3-7 days as physiology adjusts. Continue at current dose; monitor weekly.

    Moderate: reduce dose

Persistent mild symptoms past two weeks, or new symptoms like sustained mood changes, sleep disruption, or appetite shifts. Reduce dose by 25-50% and reassess at the end of the next 2-week window.

    Severe: discontinue + seek care

Any signal of allergic response (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), unexplained chest discomfort, severe injection-site reaction with infection signs, or vision changes. Discontinue immediately and consult a licensed practitioner.

    Emoxypine (Mexidol) contraindications

No FDA label exists for emoxypine. The first four cautions that follow are exclusion criteria of the MIR trial, a phase 3 trial sponsored by Pharmasoft, the maker of Mexidol (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06437626; PMID: 35485068). Hypersensitivity. People with hypersensitivity or intolerance to ethylmethylhydroxypyridine, or a history of severe allergies, were excluded. Liver and kidney disease. People with liver disease and ALT or AST above twice the upper limit of normal, or kidney disease with eGFR below 30 ml/min/1.73 m2, were excluded. Lactose intolerance. People with lactose or galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption were excluded. Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Pregnant or breastfeeding women were excluded, and participants had to use contraception. Children. The only placebo-controlled pediatric trial found enrolled children aged 6 to 12 with ADHD (PMID: 35485068).

Why vendor quality drives Emoxypine (Mexidol) side-effect frequency

Research-compound communities consistently report that adverse-event frequency tracks with source quality. Three reasons: (1) impurity profiles vary by lab (residual synthesis byproducts can trigger reactions); (2) mislabeled mass means actual dose can be 50-150% of stated dose; (3) reconstitution-grade water and capping methodology affect long-term storage stability. COA-verified vendors with published HPLC data minimize all three failure modes. Check a vendor's COA record and Trust Score before you buy.

    Emoxypine (Mexidol) side effects FAQ

What are the most common Emoxypine (Mexidol) side effects?

Placebo-controlled trials In the MIR stroke trial, adverse events occurred in 35 patients (23 percent) on Mexidol and 35 patients (23 percent) on placebo (PMID: 40898634). Are there severe side effects to watch for with Emoxypine (Mexidol)?

Severe reactions are rare in published research but can occur. Watch for: allergic-type symptoms (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty), unexplained chest discomfort, infection signs at injection sites, vision changes, or severe persistent mood/sleep disruption. Any of these warrants immediate discontinuation and consultation with a licensed practitioner. The Severity Tiers section above triages mild → moderate → severe response patterns.

    Does Emoxypine (Mexidol) have contraindications?

No FDA label exists for emoxypine. How can I minimize Emoxypine (Mexidol) side effects?

Three biggest levers: (1) Start at the Beginner-tier dose for 2-3 weeks before escalating, which gives time to detect adverse signals at minimum effective dose. (2) Source from COA-verified vendors only: impurity profiles and mislabeled compounds drive a disproportionate share of reported side effects in research-compound communities. (3) Maintain adequate cycle off-time when applicable: receptor-saturating compounds benefit from 4-6 week breaks. The vendor section below lists the cheapest in-stock Emoxypine (Mexidol) sources we track, each linked to its Trust Score (COA verification is 30% of the score).
