The FDA label for intravenous arginine hydrochloride (R-Gene 10, a 10 percent solution) describes it as hypertonic (950 mOsmol/L) and acidic, able to irritate and damage tissue, and lists extravasation (leakage outside the vein) causing burn-like reactions and skin necrosis that needed surgery, anaphylaxis, and blood in the urine among reports after marketing.
